Every Vote Matters. Every Vote Can Make A Difference.

Municipal elections matter because municipal decisions affect our everyday lives.

Council decisions influence the roads we drive on, the services our families rely on, parks and recreation, libraries, emergency services, development, housing, local businesses and how your tax dollars are spent.

And in local elections, every vote really can make a difference. Municipal elections are sometimes decided by only a small number of votes. Your vote helps determine who represents you and the direction our Township takes for the next four years.

If you are eligible to vote, make sure you are registered, know where and when to vote, and encourage your family, friends and neighbours to do the same.

Am I Eligible to Vote?

To vote in the 2026 municipal election in the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands, you must:

• Be a Canadian citizen.
• Be 18 years of age or older on Election Day.
• Be a resident of the Township of Leeds and the Thousand Islands; or
• Be an owner or tenant of land in the Township, or the spouse of an owner or tenant.
• Not be prohibited from voting under any law.

How Do I Register to Vote?

The easiest way to make sure you are on the voters’ list is to check your registration information before Election Day.

Online:

Visit the Government of Ontario’s voter registration service at https://vreg.registertovoteon.ca/en/home to check whether you are registered and update your information if necessary.

In person:

If you are not on the voters’ list, you may be able to have your name added at your voting location when you vote. You will need acceptable identification showing your name and address.

What Identification Do I Need?

When you vote, you will need identification showing your name and qualifying address.

Examples of acceptable identification may include:

• Ontario driver’s licence
• Ontario Photo Card
• Utility bill
• Bank statement
• Government document showing your name and address
• Other identification accepted under Ontario’s municipal election rules

If you do not have the required identification, there are circumstances in which another eligible elector may be able to vouch for you. Additional rules apply.

When in doubt, check the current requirements with the Township before Election Day.

When Do I Vote?

Election Day: October 26, 2026
Voting hours: 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Voting information and instructions will be provided to eligible voters before the election.
